My philosophy of art education is I want my students to realize that there is not one right or wrong way for art; that it will be different from others, it will change, keep the things that you learn and matter with you, and there will be obstacles but, it is okay to fail on an idea and to rework it. However, this philosophy might change over time which is fine with me but, at the moment this is what I believe and want my students to learn.
My idea of teaching as well as the five important areas that I want to teach to them fit into this in many ways. First, they act as mini lessons that I want to teach from the big idea which, is my philosophy. I want them to be able to use them as a guide to how they want to make art or to what they think art should be. I do not want to preach to them my opinion of art but instead, guide them in how they want to think whether it is the same as mine or not. Secondly, my five areas are things that stuck with me when I learned them in high school and now college. This fits in with my philosophy because I want them to hold onto things that matter to them; act like values of art. Which brings me to my third point and my animation. Based off my animation and the quote "eat an apple a day keeps the teacher away", I want my students to listen to what I have to say and take it in whether they agree or not. This relates to my philosophy of art education because even though there is not a right or wrong way to art, there are always different opinions that should be accounted for. I want my students to be professional when listening to them and be able to give reasons on why they agree or disagree; I want them to put their opinion out there and not be afraid to do so. Finally, I want my students to experience art at their fullest. I want them to experience the changes of the past, present and future. I want them to learn the history of famous artists and movements and the art of my generation, their generation and the future generations that are to come.
