As a future art educator I want to be able to bring technology into my classroom. I want to be able to introduce new things from the students as well as have them introduce things to me if I have not heard about them already. When I think about these ideas I think about the reading and when they say "The future is already hear, it's just distributed unevenly". I believe this quote very much; technology is increasing and becoming more popular all the time, however, it is distributed to society in different ways. However, when I become an art educator I would want to us many techniques from technology, one of them being the sketchcast.
When I watched the video on the sketchcast, it pretty much amazed me. As soon as I watched the first thing I thought was I want to try this. Then I started thinking like a teacher and thought how can I use this in my classroom. Some ways I thought about were to project it on an over head and teach skills on it; how to draw certain things. For example, shapes, form, and line are some things I can show by using sketchcast. I also thought about having the students use it to help others, or for gesture drawings; for quick sketches for ideas and to get feedback from peers as though it is a critique. Another way I would use it in my classroom is to use the voice recorder as well that comes with it. I would possibly record my voice going through the steps of drawing an object, so then the students can go back and listen to it rather than wait for me to get around to everyone or if I am unavailable and there is a substitute in that day.
I also thought about why I would use this in my classroom. I want to use it to show my students that not only can you learn skills with traditional media such as pencils or paint but, you can also use technology to learn the basics. Granted you cannot get the same feeling or texture from actually painting with a paint brush from technology but, it can still be a helpful tool to have in class. I also want to teach them that using technology is not as scary as it might seem. However, by then it might be the norm; therefore, I would teach them that they can expand their knowledge by trying new ways of technology since it will always be changing.
